 Procedure Text - Recipe & Manual

 

          Assalamu'alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

Hello, students! How are you today? I hope all of you are healthy. Please stay safe and obey the health protocol. So, today we're going to talk about kind of Procedure Text that are Recipe and Manual. However, before we start our class, let's pray first.

Okay, apakah kalian masih ingat pengertian Procedure Text?

Don't worry! Jangan khawatir! Jika tidak ingat, saya akan sedikit mengulang materinya.

So, "What's Procedure Text?"

Procedure text is a text that tell about how to make or use something with sequence step.

Then, the Generic Structure of procedure text are Goal, Ingredients/Materials and Steps/Methods.

There are also the Language Features of Procedure Text ; using adverbs of sequence (first, second,....next,after that, finally), using imperative sentences (add two spoons of sugar, pour the water into the glass), adverb of manner (slowly, tightly, well, etc), using action verbs (chop,mix,pour,etc) and using adverbs to state the details of time and place "boil the water for 15 minutes).

Sekarang, kita akan belajar mengenai jenis teks prosedur. There are two kinds of procedure text; that are recipe and manual. Okay, let's talk about the recipe first.

 1. Procedure Text (Recipe)

What's the meaning of recipe itself? Recipe is a set of instructions for preparing a particular dish, including a list of the ingredients required. So, recipe procedure text is  is the part of procedure text that contains of explanation about how food is completely made or cooked through a sequence of step. Or in short explanation recipe procedure text is a text that explains/tells about how to make something.

The purpose of recipe procedure text:

    1. To describe how something is made in sequenced steps.
    2. To provide a series of steps in sequence that explains the reader.
    3. To tell the steps of making something. 
Kemudian, untuk Generic Structure nya tidak beda dengan yang sudah disebutkan di awal tadi yaitu Goal, Ingredients and Step. Selain itu, Language Features yang digunakan juga sama dengan yang sudah disebutkan di awal.

         Agar lebih paham, berikut adalah contoh recipe procedure text.

HOW TO MAKE FRIED RICE 
(Cara membuat nasi goreng)

 
  Ingredients:
  • 2 cloves of garlic (dua siung bawang putih)
  • 2 onions (dua bawang merah)
  • An egg (sebutir telur)
  • 1 table spoon of vegetable oil (satu sendok minyak goreng)
  • A plate of rice (sepiring nasi)
  • Salt (garam)
  Steps:
  1. First, chop garlic and onions into the small pieces (Pertama tama, potong-potong kecil bawang putih dan bawang merah)
  2. Second, heat vegetable oil on a frying pan. (Kedua, panaskan minyak goreng di wajan penggorengan)
  3. Third, put the chopped garlic and onion into the hot vegetable oil. Fry them a while. (Ketiga, masukkan potongan bawang merah dan bawang putih ke dalam minyak panas)
  4. Fourth, add an egg into the pan and stir them. (Keempat, masukkan telur ke wajan dan aduk aduk)
  5. Fifth, put one plate of rice. Fry and mix them around 3 minutes. (Kelima, masukkan sepiring nasi. Goreng dan aduk aduk selama kurang lebih 3 menit)
  6. Sixth, add two pinces of salt. Continue frying until the rice is mixed perfectly. (Keenam, masukkan 2 jumput garam. lanjutkan mengaduk sampai merata)
  7. Finally, put the fried rice on a plate. Fried rice is ready to serve. (Akhirnya, letakkan nasi dia atas piring. Nasi goreng siap untuk disajikan)

 Yuk, kita coba bahas language features yang ada pada contoh text di atas:

  1. Adverbs of sequence : first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, finally.    
  2. Imperative sentence : "chop garlic and onions...." , "heat vegetable..." , "put the chopped garlic..." etc. (Coba kalian tambahkan yaa kira-kira mana saja yang termasuk imperative sentence pada procedure text di atas)
  3.  Adverb of manner : perfectly
  4. Action verbs : chop, heat, put, fry, ..... (Coba kalian tambahkan yaa kira-kira mana saja yang termasuk action verbs pada procedure text di atas)
  5. Adverbs to state the details of time and place: "heat vegetable oil on a frying pan.", "Fry and mix them around 3 minutes." (Coba kalian cek dan tambahkan yaa kira-kira mana saja yang termasuk adverbs to state the details of time and place pada procedure text di atas).
